4th Slovenian Jewelry Week 2025

Category
5/04 - 3/05/25

Location: Galerija Drat - Izola

Organizer: SIJW

The Slovenian Jewellery Week 2024 (SIJW), for the fourth consecutive year, will unite art, tradition, and innovation in contemporary jewellery design. In 2025, the event will focus on three key themes: energy, joy, and harmony, explored by designers through their presented collections.

The energy that arises from joy not only creates inner harmony but permeates every aspect of daily life. This strong connection between energy, joy, and harmony drives creativity, encouraging designers to express their ideas and visions in unique ways. When this creative energy permeates thoughts and actions, it shapes personal experiences and influences the surrounding environment, society, and culture, generating changes that lead to new ways of thinking and acting. In this interplay, energy, joy, and harmony become fundamental elements of artistic creation and social transformation.

The central program of SIJW 2025, which will take place in various locations across Slovenia, will be concentrated during the week from April 10 to 19, 2025, with exhibitions open to the public:

from April 5 to May 3, 2025, in Izola
from April 10 to 19, 2025, in Ljubljana
from April 10 to 24, 2025, in Slovenj Gradec

Alegria / Joy – Drat Gallery, Izola

Curator Luis Acosta, drawing from extensive experience in previous projects, has created the exhibition "Alegria (Joy), jewellery," featuring 32 international designers.

Joy in contemporary jewellery represents various approaches celebrating life, creativity, and emotional connections. It serves as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, reflected in the design, choice of materials, colors, and shapes. Many exhibited pieces feature vibrant colors, playful shapes, and innovative materials that evoke feelings of happiness and vitality. Each piece tells a personal or collective story, transforming everyday objects into something extraordinary.

Special attention is given to sustainability and creativity, with designers using recycled and unconventional materials, adding a dimension of hope and responsibility to the jewellery. This combination of aesthetics and social awareness supports the idea that art can become a means of "Alegria" – joy and transformation. In this context, jewellery is not just an ornament but a way to express emotions, connect with others, and celebrate the beauty of life.

This international traveling exhibition will tour various European countries over two years, including the Netherlands, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, France, Portugal, and Italy. From April 5 to May 3, it will be hosted in Izola, presenting visitors with unique and creative interpretations of contemporary jewellery by international designers.

Energy – Ljubljana

The main curated exhibition of SIJW 2025, held at the Rog Centre from April 10 to 19, will be inspired by the theme "Energy." Selected designers from Slovenia, Europe, and around the world will be presented, evaluated by an expert jury, with awards given for outstanding achievements.

Designers will explore the dynamics of creativity and transformation, examining how energy transcends physical resources to influence the psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects that shape our world. The exhibition will also highlight social and cultural tensions related to energy transitions, influencing various societal sectors and inspiring artistic expressions. Contemporary designers draw inspiration from these changes, transforming raw materials into artistic creations reflecting the spirit of the times. The exhibition will offer insights into the role of energy in artistic creation and societal shifts.

Harmony – Slovenj Gradec

The exhibition "Harmony" features unique jewellery created by Slovenian designers and goldsmiths, exclusively using Slovenian stones found and cut in Slovenia.

Stone and jewellery are deeply interconnected, together narrating ancient stories millions of years old, intertwined with contemporary design approaches. Author jewellery incorporating natural stones from Slovenian sites highlights nature’s beauty through color, structure, and form, uniting various local creators in exceptional harmony.

The project was developed in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Slovenia, the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia – Section of Jewellers and Goldsmiths, and is also connected to the international mineral fair MINFOS, expanding and evolving further.

During SIJW 2025, the exhibition will be hosted from April 10 to 24 at the Regional Museum in Slovenj Gradec. It is clearly oriented towards sustainability, with particular attention to Slovenia's cultural and natural heritage.

The Slovenian Jewellery Week is fundamentally a cultural and educational project, including presentations by internationally renowned artists, workshops, school and student projects, exhibitions, lectures, and roundtables.

It is not merely a gathering of creators and enthusiasts but a celebration of culture, innovation, sustainability, and Slovenian and global creativity. The energy derived from joy creates harmony that fuels creativity and shapes the world around us.

Join us in a harmonious world full of joyful energy inspired by jewellery!
