GOSPEL LIGHT is a group that recreates gospel and spiritual music and will perform at the Cultural Center of Izola on Sunday, December 22, at 6:00 PM.
GROUP DESCRIPTION:
"We choose songs from the rich treasury of traditional gospel and spiritual music, which historically originates from the music of African Americans, blended with the 'white' music of that time. This 'black spiritual music' is something special, as it brings soothing and rich harmonies that are pleasant to listen to and can create a meditative, magical atmosphere. In this music, everyone can express and experience joy, sadness, longing, hope, and introspection in their own way. The group has been active for six years. We have held concerts in various places across Slovenia (Ljubljana, Litija, Ankaran, Postojna, Idrija, ...). We also participated in a concert with the famous New Swing Quartet, which has been recreating this kind of music in Slovenia and around the world for over 50 years. At that time, Oto Pestner gave us our new – current name, Gospel Light."
The group consists of six members. "Among us are four experienced singers who have been performing in various vocal groups across different music genres (choirs, octets, quartets, and other music groups) for many years. The singers span two generations, complementing each other. Our keyboardist is a master of playing classic Hammond organs (as well as piano and other keyboards), with over 20 years of experience performing abroad. Our percussionist has played drums in a band for over 15 years and also sings in an octet and choir. In our music, as a music critic once wrote about us: 'Virtuosity and experience intertwine with amateur charisma, bringing forth a spirit of light ingrained in the genotype of harmonies awaiting liberation.'"
Free tickets are available for pick-up at the Alga Gallery during official opening hours or one hour before the performance at the box office of the Cultural Center of Izola.
