The Izola Male Choir has inherited the long-standing singing tradition of the coastal town of Izola, where various mixed, male, and other vocal ensembles have thrived in the past. The choir was founded in 2005, initially led by the experienced conductor Mirjana Bonin, who remained devoted to the choir for over five years and carried out essential and demanding groundwork.
Today, the choir's repertoire includes folk and art choral compositions from various authors, nations, and themes. The singers perform love, wine, partisan, and sacred songs with feeling — both a cappella and with instrumental accompaniment.
They regularly participate in the “Primorska poje” choral festival and have also performed at the traditional “Ob kresni noči” event in Škocjan, at the Hungarian choir festival in Szentgotthárd (Monošter), and at numerous other events across Slovenia.
With great joy and pride, the singers perform at municipal and local events, as well as at many other special occasions in their hometown, where, together with the people of Izola, they strive each year to grow the number of choir members and improve the expressive quality of their vocal interpretation.
The choir currently includes 22 singers.
Looking to the future, their goals include elevating the difficulty of their repertoire, developing concert projects for the coming years, and attracting as many new singers as possible from Izola and its surroundings.
They hope the choir will continue to carry the spirit of the Mediterranean and the multicultural character of the coastal town, becoming increasingly recognized for its distinctive multilingualism.
