Join an evening with the Yanu Trio, delving into the musical traditions of Africa and Asia and weaving them into the harmonic fabric of Europe.
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jan Tomšič, string virtuoso Igor Leonardi, and percussionist Boris Magdalenc create a soundscape where meditative tones and world rhythms intertwine in the glow of improvisational playfulness.
Jan, the project’s leader, is a hidden gem of the Slovenian music scene. He began his musical journey in his hometown of Berlin and developed a unique singing style rooted in his studies in India and travels through Mexico, the USA, and Asia.
Leonardi studied jazz and classical guitar at the Music Academy in Graz. He traveled extensively through Asia and Africa, where he deepened his understanding of ethnic music on various string instruments. He lived in the USA for ten years, studying with Don Cherry, one of the founders of “Multi-Kulti” music.
Boris Magdalenc, a percussionist of the younger generation, plays exotic and rare instruments such as the frame drum and hang. With his experience in world music and refined sensitivity, he is the perfect co-creator of the improvisational pulse.
Jan Tomšič: vocals, guitar, flute, percussion, looper
Igor Leonardi: MIDI guitar, oud, rabab, Portuguese guitar
Boris Magdalenc: dumbek, frame drum, hang
