BARVNOSLIŠNI ZVEN PROJECT
The sound of color and the color of sound. The Barvnoslišni zven (Color-Hearing Resonance) project offers a visual and auditory exploration of both aspects. Art enables the integration of sensory, emotional, motor, and cognitive processes, as well as attention, emotional regulation, and autonomous functions, which phenomenologically translates into a sense of well-being. Music is one of the few human activities that activates all parts of the brain—enhancing attention, memory, coordination, speech comprehension, logical thinking, and the development of social and emotional intelligence.
When we ponder the vibrancy of music, eternal connections arise, such as the interplay of sensory stimuli and the interaction between musical and visual languages. Shared elements like rhythm, sharpness, warmth, softness, harmony, muteness, brightness, and other qualities shape our perception. We see with sound, constructing auditory structures that stimulate our mood, imagination, and thoughts. This sound becomes music when it adopts another dramaturgical dimension—interconnectedness—not through mere translation but as an instant synthesis of holistic perception. At this moment, the invisible becomes visible, and emotions express themselves through established relationships. The deeper these connections are, the stronger the expression becomes.
This interconnectedness is vital to the relationship between color, sound, and the painted surface, but most importantly, it lies in the harmony between the creators themselves. This synergy gave birth to the Barvnoslišni zven project, created by Nuša Smolič's personal experience of "seeing" music in a unique way— synesthetic vision. The result is the transformation of music into color, manifested as visible painterly elements and strokes on a surface.
Nuša Smolič, an academic painter by profession, has designed her entire life around this concept. The project’s creative process emphasizes a heightened sensitivity to the production of music as an instantaneous interaction of emotional perception, tone, melody, and direct action. The experience of seeing music in color translates into visual expression—brushstrokes on canvas or paper.
For this purpose, Nuša collaborates with musicians from diverse genres who approach music creation in a way that aligns with the project's vision. Together, they create Barvnoslišni zven with complete dedication to music, stripping away learned norms and conventions. The project’s goal is to create a vibrant, musical synergy—a wave of colorful experience that enchants and surprises not only the creators but also the audience. The audience, through their energy and engagement, becomes an integral part of the project.
Let us listen, discover new senses, and connect—in an interactive performance and a visual-auditory space. Enter the color of melody and hear the melody of color.
