Discover the Tastes of Izola’s Countryside

Category

Izola enchants with the scent of the sea, its picturesque streets, and the charm of a former fishing town. But those who take the time to explore its countryside will discover much more – authentic stories, breathtaking views, and the true flavors of Istria. Today, we invite you to venture there – into the rural heart of Izola, where nature speaks for itself, locals uphold their traditions, and produce outstanding olive oils and wines that add an essential touch to Istrian cuisine.

Among Olive Groves and Vineyards: Izola’s Story of Passion and Tradition

Olives and vines have been at home in Izola’s countryside for centuries. The locals cultivate the Istrian soil with deep respect for nature and in close connection with traditions passed down through generations. You can taste their dedication in the high-quality olive oils and wines, which you can sample during guided tastings with local producers, as part of town tours, or at events throughout Izola.

Each tasting is more than just sampling – it’s a chance to meet the locals, discover traditions, and experience the authentic spirit of Slovenian Istria with all your senses.

Discover Istrian Gold – Olive Oil Tasting

The olive oil of Slovenian Istria is the result of a unique microclimate, manual work, and the knowledge that locals proudly preserve. Visit family farms, walk through the groves, and learn about the production process. Most importantly – learn how to recognize high-quality olive oil.

Top-quality olive oils include those with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Strictly controlled production methods ensure the highest quality, preserve the environment and traditional values, and at the same time reinforce the local gastronomic identity.

Tastings include various types of olive oil and other local delicacies.

Discover the Wine Heritage of Istria – Wine Tasting

The hilly, sun-drenched landscape and the proximity of the sea create ideal conditions for producing top-quality Istrian wines. Among the most typical varieties of Slovenian Istria are Malvasia and Refošk, though local winemakers also impress with orange wines and other carefully selected varieties.

Wine tastings include a guided sampling of several wine varieties, often accompanied by a local snack. If the tasting takes place at the winemaker’s estate, it is often possible to visit the vineyards and the wine cellar as well.

Let us know your wishes, and we’ll help you create an unforgettable experience.
