Žana Šuran:
Žana Šuran is a designer and illustrator from Izola. After completing her studies in illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, she has primarily worked in design both in Slovenia and abroad. Lately, she has been working in the Istrian cultural space, focusing mainly on illustration. She has been using digital techniques – computer software and a graphic tablet, but she has not completely quit analogue work either. She draws inspiration for her work from nature (especially animals) or in herself and her own experiences and thoughts.
As she explained, the series of works that will be exhibited in Izolana is an attempt to show the recognizability of the illustrated images, which is why she decided to create illustrations based on photographic images.
» This series focuses on communicating colors, composition and textures, as I wanted the subject to remain recognizable. I was looking for ways to present Izola as I see it – pleasant and friendly, peaceful, with character and history. I also wanted to highlight the beauty of small, perhaps unexpected moments. «
At the Izola Tourist Board, we believe that the locals are our most important tourism ambassadors and that's why we are letting them shine again – this time through art. We are starting this artistic journey with the artist Žana Šuran, whose works will find a new life – not only in the exhibition.
Her illustrations and an artwork of Milan Obradovič – Karp, another artist from Izola, will also find their place on souvenirs from Izola. These will be more than just a memory of time spent in Izola - they are sustainable and practical. The artworks will adorn cotton bags, T-shirts, and postcards, which you can use to send greetings or keep as an everlasting framed memory of Izola.
