Poetry in Music: Divine Invitation to Dance
Location: Simonov Zaliv Archaeological Park
Time: 8.00 pm
Entrance fee: 8,00 €
Hafez's poetry in musical guise by Kaja of Hafez in the magical setting of a Roman seaside villa in the Simonov zaliv bay (entrance from the seafront promenade).
Hafez (1320-1389), a popular Persian poet, wrote some five thousand poems, of which only five hundred to seven hundred have been preserved. His poetry is not just "classic literature" from the distant past, but the precious wisdom and humour of a dear and close friend. In his poems, in a lightly playful yet profound way, he celebrates every smallest expression of love in the universe and constantly encourages our hearts to dance.
Kaja of Hafez (Kaja Lomovšek), pianist, piano teacher and music therapist, first encountered Hafez's poetry in 2010, when she discovered the poetry collection Dance with Me, translated by Barbara Škoberna. The depth of his verses captivated her so much that she was inspired to write her first rendition the same year. Since then, she and Hafez have been inseparable friends. To date, she has covered over forty Slovenian and over sixty English translations of his poems. She sings them mainly for her own soul, but occasionally shares them with lovers of timeless poetry. She will present a selection of Slovenian and English renditions at the Hafez Poetry Evening.
